Zinc Cold Galvanising For Anti Corrosion Control In Marine Environments

Zinga performs extremely well in marine environments and can out last hot dip galvanised treated steel by 10%. It can be used on rebars in ports, beach gates, bridges, steel pilings, pier legs, and even vessel hulls. Products used in each project are linked to each reference.

Immersed Pier Legs

1. The pier legs at Killybegs have been in the sea for 25 years and due to the salt and the sulphate reducing bacteria present in the sea water, they were losing up to 2 mm per year of their thickness. The waters around Killybegs are unique because they have the highest rate of corrosion in Europe. Zinga was applied at 300µm and has been reported to be protecting the legs well despite the barnacle build up.

Amphibious Vehicle Shell Preparation

1. All of the exterior surfaces that become immersed when entering the water were coated with Zinga and Zingaceram. These products will protect the vehicle against repeated contact with debris, both on land and in the water, and against the chlorides in the River Thames.

2. The prop-shaft tunnel was given an additional layer of Zinga but was not coated in Zingaceram, owing to the composition of the wiring, wiring components and wiring housing within it.

3. All interior surfaces were coated with Zinga and Zingalufer, giving protection against various abrasions, including scuffing from footwear.

Rebars

1. ZINGA was applied at 40 µm DFT on the rebars in all reinforced concrete structures at Lamu Port which is in an area of high atmospheric salinity.

Beach Gates

1. ZINGA was applied at 150 um to the beach gates at Sunnyside.

Beach Bridge

1. As the Sunnyside bridge is on the coast, the following system used was: Zinga: 80µm DFT

2. Followed by Alufer N at 160µm DFT and a 3rd coat of 2K PU: 60µm DFT

Zinga (galvanising layer) + Alufer N (one component MIO PU sealer) + 2K polyurethane (UV resistant finishing coat)
